Simultaneous Equations

Simultaneous equations are equations with two variables which are not known.
Subjects > Mathematics > Simultaneous Equations

Meaning

The word "Simultaneous" means occuring, operating or done at the same time. Simultaneous equations are the equations that involve two or more unknowns that are to have the same values in each equation. Both equations are solved at the same time.

`{(ax,+,by,= c ...(i)),(dx,+,ey,= f ...(ii)):}`

From the above example, the unknown variables are `x` and `y`

Methods of solving Simultaneous Equations

There are many methods of solving simultaneous equations, but for now, we are going to cover two basic methods:

  1. Elimination method
  2. Substitution method

Let's learn through our solved problems
